Lloyd E. Sumner, 91, of Independence passed away Wednesday, October 29th at the Gansel House.
Services will be Monday, November 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Independence, with burial immediately following at Mount Hope Cemetery with Navy military rights. Potts Chapel of Independence will be handling the services.
Lloyd was born on August 29, 1923 to Dick and Susan Fitzsimmons Sumner in War Eagle, Arkansas. He attended schools in Adair, Oklahoma. On February 22, 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy and received Honorable discharge in 1945.
On May 29, 1948, he was united in marriage to Minnie Canady in Pryor, Oklahoma. They had two daughters, Nina Matukewicz and Connie Kahler.
He is survived by five grandchildren, eight greatgrandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren.
Lloyd enjoyed working in his yard and was a hospital Auxiliary member since 1995.
He retired from Heartland Cement plant in 1989.
Memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left at Potts Chapel.
