Lewis C. Henry, age 85, of Independence, Kansas died Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Robert J. Dole Hospice Unit in Wichita, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Reverends Sammy Lorton, Tommy Wade and Wayne Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Robert J. Dole VA Hospice Unit and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Lewis was born June 1, 1925 in Eolia, Missouri to James William and Georgianna Mabry Henry. On October 29, 1943 Lewis entered the United States Army and served during World War II he was honorable discharged on December 3, 1945. On October 31, 1952 Lewis married Vera Knight in Piggott, Arkansas. Lewis worked for Phillips Petroleum Company in the credit card department for 28 years in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The couple has made their home in the Independence area since 1968. He was a member of the Wesleyan Church Survivors include his wife Vera of the home sons Robert Henry and wife Brenda of Independence, Kansas, John Foster of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Delbert Foster of Bixby, Oklahoma daughters Debbie Thacker of Bixby, Oklahoma, Dawn Coker of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Vicki Forrest of Tulsa, Oklahoma one brother Wayne Henry of Missouri granddaughter Heidi Henry of Independence, Kansas. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
