Lewis McDonald Harp, age 84, of Independence, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Independence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, December 5, 2008, at Potts Chapel of Independence, with Pastor Willie Jones and Pastor Mike Graham officiating. Memorials have been suggested to Harry Hynes Hospice or Grace Memorial United Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home. Lewis was born on December 26, 1923, in Cedar Vale, Kansas, to Ambrose C. and Lula B. Jerome Harp. On June 2, 1951, he married Frances J. Patterson in Arkansas City, Kansas, and she survives of the home. He served in the Army Medical Corp. during the Korean conflict. Before his retirement, Lewis worked as a serviceman for Tweetie Service for 18 years, as a salesman for Mid-West Vending for 17 years, and as a metal fabricator for Dixon Mfg. for 6 years. Lewis was a member of Grace Memorial United Methodist Church, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a past member of the Lions Club. In additional to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Tamela J. Harp, Independence, KS, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
