Leslie H. Briggs, 73, peacefully passed away at Coffeyville Regional Hospital with his family at his bedside. Leslie was born December 28, 1935 in Elgin, Oklahoma the son of Wesley and Kathleen Dotson Briggs. He graduated from Elgin High School and has a engineering degree from Washburn University. He had been manager for Coca-Cola for 19 years, Otasco for 8 years, then he was head person for Emerson for 8 years. He had worked in security for Spears until his health failed. He had served in the Army National Guard with the 45th Infantry as a cook. He was united in marriage to Jo Benning Hills on May 23, 1980 in Miami, Oklahoma, she survives at the home. Survivors also include sons; Leslie David Briggs, Ft. Worth, Texas, Norman Ray Hills, Edna, Kansas, and Leon Hills, Valeda, Kansas. Three daughters; Lisa MichelleShelly Weingard, Yapank, New York, Traci Koca, Shawnee, Kansas, Susan Newman, Coffeyville, Kansas. One brother, Glen Briggs, Junction City, Kansas. Two sisters; Linda Dunn, Marlow, Oklahoma and Eleanor Schriver, Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by parents, two daughters, Judy Hills and Gail Bohr. Two brothers; Wesley and Harry Briggs and one sister Naomi. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation will be Friday, 1 P.M. to 9 P.M. with the family to receive friends 6P.M. to 9 P.M. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery , Independence, Kansas. Potts Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
