Leonard L. Morrison

Leonard Morrison, 86 years old, resided in Independence, KS until his passing on March 14, 2026. He was born October 2nd 1939 to James Morrison and Chloe Irene Richards in Wellman, Iowa. He joined the United States Marine Corps October 1956.

Leonard married Elnora Chaffin on November 18, 1961. Leonard loved his country and went through 2 tours in Vietnam. In his 20 years of service he acquired numerous medals including 2 purple hearts. He followed his family to Independence, Kansas in 1976 when he retired from the Marine Corps. He drove semi with his brother and worked construction before he became Foreman over the Street Department here in Independence until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He served as VFW POST 1186 Commander 1989 to 1994

He is survived by his daughter Leonda Morrison Drake, his grandchildren Austin Drake and Destiney Drake.

Leonard was proceeded in death by his wife Elnora Chaffin Morrison, his Father James Clarence Morrison and Mother Chloe Irene Richards, Brothers and Sister - Jim Morrison, Harold Morrison, Lola Morrison Martin, Randy Morrison, Steve Morrison, Wilber Richards, Marwin Richards, and Victor Richards.

We are having a Celebration of Life April 11th at the VFW POST 1186, 12 to 3 PM.
