Leola M. Adams, 87 of rural Independence, Kansas passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at her home. Celebration of life funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 5, 2011 at Potts Chapel of Independence with Reverend Terry Hatfield of the First Christian Church, officiating. Friends may sign the register book from 12 noon until 8 P.M. Sunday with family receiving friends from 2:30 P.M. until 3:30 P.M. at Potts Chapel of Independence. Interment will be held in Pratt Cemetery east of Independence. Memorial remembrances are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or First Christian Church and they may be left at Potts Chapel of Independence. Leola Mae Adams was born December 27, 1923 at Hulbert, Oklahoma the daughter of Arthur Wilkey and Iona C. Watkins Wilkey. She grew up in Hulbert and Henryetta and attended schools there. On February 2, 1941 at Hulbert, Oklahoma she was united in marriage to Charley O. Adams and he preceded her in death June 8, 2004. Leola worked at Lees Manufacturing, Electra, and retired as a cook after many years from USD446 Independence Schools. She attended First Christian Church of Independence and was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital for many years. Survivors include, two sons B.J. Adams of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Tom Adams of Tuttle, Oklahoma, three daughters Peggy Adams of Independence, Kansas, Glenda Burkhart of Omaha, Nebraska, Janell Daily of Marietta, California, two sisters Betty Hardy of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Beatrice Pressley of Shawnee, Oklahoma, 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Charley, two daughters, Norma Jean Clubine, Joyce Ann Gordon and brother Don Wilkey.
