Lena Smith

Lena J. Hopkins Smith, 93, of Independence, Kansas passed away Thursday, February, 23, 2012 at Montgomery Place in Independence. Cremation has taken place with Celebration of Life funeral services being held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Potts Chapel of Independence. Lena Jim Hopkins Smith was born June, 20, 1917 near Comanche, Texas the daughter of James Gleaton and Ora Talley Gleaton. She graduated from Memphis, Texas high school in 1936. She was united in marriage to Loren Gene Hopkins in 1967 and he preceded her in death in 1987. She later was united in marriage to Oren Smith in 1991 and they later divorced. She graduated from Memphis, Texas high school in 1936. She worked as a Nurse Aide in Independence, Kansas from 1969 until 1975 when she went back for training and became a Certified Medical Aide. Later on she was a manger of apartment houses in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lena moved around in her life living in California from 1965 to 1968 when she moved Independence, Kansas. She also lived in Wichita, Kansas, Vernon, Texas and Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was a member of International Association of Rebekah Assemblies in Texas. Survivors include one son, Brian Thompson of Independence, Kansas.
