Lawrence Lee Ranes, age 85, of Cherryvale, Kansas died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at his home in rural Cherryvale, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas with the Reverend Stephen Mahn Thapwa officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Lawrence was born April 23, 1925 in Independence, Kansas to Loten Lee and Christine Mary Schicke Ranes. He grew up in Independence, Kansas and attended the Independence School System. On October 30, 1945 Lawrence married Adeline Benning in Coffeyville, Kansas. The couple later divorced. Lawrence worked at Funks Manufacturing in Coffeyville, Kansas in Maintenance retiring in 1993. On June 11, 1983 Lawrence married Marianne Gazaway Carey in Caney, Kansas. Lawrence at the age of 68 went back to school to learn electronics. He owned and operated Ranes Fix It Shop. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cherryvale, Kansas. Survivors include his wife Marianne of the home son Tom Ranes and wife Vicky of Cherryvale, Kansas daughter Linda Sage and husband Roy of Cherryvale, Kansas daughter Debbie Daniels and husband Danny of Havana, Kansas son David Carey and wife Claudia of Caney, Kansas Daughter Amy Wade of husband Ron of Caney, Kansas Daughter Chrissy Nunneley and husband Sam of Tyro, Kansas Daughter Gina Peterson and husband J.R. of Annawan, Illinois Grandchildren Jared, Jordan, Katilyn Daniels, Amanda Merryman, Alan, Alex Carey, Abigail, Hali, Sadie Wade, Madison Kennedy, Lyndon Nunneley, Whitney, Tyler, Rachael, Kaley Peterson Great Grandchildren Aubree, Lillee Merryman, and his caregiver Sharon Winters. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Ruth Kirchoff.
