Laverne Beam

LaVerne L Beam age 81 Formerly of Topeka passed away on August 14, 2020 at Country Place Living.

LaVerne was born on January 27, 1939 in Leroy to Leland and Florence (Bartlett) Dixon. She was raised in the Leroy area and attended local schools, where she was the drum major for the band. After graduating from Leroy High School, she joined the workforce at McCormack Plumbing in Burlington as the store manager. She met Roy Beam and the couple was united in marriage. They made their first home in Burlington then later moving to Topeka where LaVerne began working for Sears as a sales associate. She loved her job and enjoyed 30 years of helping customers before her retirement. LaVerne and Roy enjoyed traveling making trips to Hawaii and everywhere in between. They enjoyed going to casinos with friends and being together. LaVerne was a social person with a very caring heart, she was ornery yet no nonsense at the same time. She was loyal but blunt, you knew where you stood with her. LaVerne had worked on some political campaigns, she liked genealogy, tracing her own family’s history back to the 1400’s. Never having children, her cats were cherished, Baby, Tigger, and not to choose favorites but her favorite cat Moose.

LaVerne’s memories will live on with her several nieces and nephews.

She now rests with her parents, husband Roy, and brother Terrel Dixon.

Friends are invited to sign the register book on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 10:00am to 6:00pm at Potts Chapel. The family suggests memorials be made payable to the Alzheimer’s Association or Country Place Living. To share a memory or to leave a message of
