LaVern Joseph Legleiter passed away on July 24, 2024, in assisted living surrounded by the love of his daughter. He was born on May 5, 1934, in Liebenthal, Kansas.
On August 26, 1966, he married the love of his life Joyce Klocke in Miami, Oklahoma and proceeded to raise two beautiful daughters they were so proud of.
In 1993, LaVern retired after 43 years of service to the USD259 Wichita School Board from the Carpentry Department. After retirement he moved his family to Independence, Kansas where he lived out the remainder of his years.
LaVern’s hobbies were woodworking and working on antique cars. In LaVern’s older years, he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and watching them grow up.
LaVern is survived by his daughters, Tina Monier and her husband James along with their two children from Leon, Kansas; Lea Paine along with her daughter from Cherryvale, Kansas. Debra Lutz and her husband Robert from Mountain Grove, Missouri. His son Lonnie Legleiter and his wife Becky, along with their children from Goddard, Kansas.
LaVern will be remembered for his beautiful woodwork and his quirky sense of humor.
There will be a viewing for LaVern on August 1, 2024, at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas from 8am to 12pm. He will then be transported to his final resting place at the Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta, Kansas.
