Laura Louetta Sullivan

November 2, 1927 — October 31, 2024

Laura L. Sullivan, of Independence, died October 31, 2024 in Parsons, Kansas. Laura was born on November 2, 1927 in Nevada, Missouri to Arthur Morris Covey and Ethel Louella Long Covey. She was the last of nine children born into the family. She grew up during the depression years, when money was scarce and love was abundant. Laura attended elementary and high school in Nevada, Missouri.

On September 12, 1946, Laura married Lloyd L. Sullivan in Coffeyville, Kansas. They lived in Nevada, Missouri following their marriage and continued their education together. Upon completion of their education, they moved to Portland, Oregon, where they lived for a year before returning to Nevada, Missouri. They moved to Independence, Kansas in November of 1952, which became their lifetime home. Laura attended Beauty College in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and operated Laura's Beauty Shop in Independence for many years.

Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Lloyd Wayne Sullivan, their firstborn who arrived in January of 1950, followed by Michael Lee Sullivan in 1952. Laura considered themselves "blessed beyond words" with the arrival of a grandson, Michael Sullivan, in 1980. She considered her husbands, sons, and grandsons to be the greatest joys in her life. She spent her entire life being a caring and helpful wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was also known by family members as Blue Ribbon "pie maker" and always blessed nieces and nephews with their favorites, upon request. Laura had a great love for dogs. Some of the very special ones in her life include Sarah, Cocoa, Chrissy, Frenchie, Rags, and Molly, who was Laura's last companion. All of these beloved pets are being buried with Laura.

Laura and Lloyd celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just months before Lloyd's passing in April of 2007. Laura was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd L. Sullivan, sons Wayne Sullivan and Michael Sullivan, her parents, four brothers, and four sisters.

She is survived by her grandson Michael Wayne Sullivan and wife Heather of Minneapolis, MN, two daughter-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly.

May Laura's soul rest in eternal peace.
