Independence

Laura Kirks, Independence, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 24th, 2021. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 31st at 10:00am at Potts Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, December 30th, 1:00-7:00pm, with family greeting friends 5:00-7:00pm. Memorials are suggested to the Gideon International and or the Independence Bible School. These can be left with Potts Chapel.

Laura Lou (Linn) Kirks was born on May 16th,1936 in Canton, Illinois to Chester Earl and Clara Lucille (Quigley) Linn.  On November 1, 1958, she married Robert Eugene Kirks in Montgomery City, Missouri.  They had 3 children, Cheryl Lynn, Rodney Eugene and Julie Ann.

Laura was a member of the Bible Holiness Church.  She held many positions there such as Prayer Line director and sending cards for birthdays and anniversaries.  She was a stay-at-home mom while her children were growing up where she also ran the Shelter Insurance office that was in their home. She worked as the manager of the Religious Book Store for 10 years.  After her retirement she volunteered at Mercy Hospital auxiliary which brought her so much joy.  She mentored in reading at the elementary buildings and loved each child that she was able to work with.  She also loved her Bible Study groups and visiting and taking snacks to people who weren’t able to get out.  Lou loved to be of service to others, be it friends or family.  Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world along with her beloved husband.  She never missed a program, concert or sporting event that involved any of them if she was able to be there.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Claude Linn and a son-in-law, Sam King.

She is survived by her husband Robert, of the home, son, Rodney Kirks (Cyndi), Auburn, WA. Daughters, Cheryl Jefferson (Ron) and Julie King, Independence. Eight grandchildren, Jared Jefferson (Teresa), Amber Jefferson, Brad Kirks (Ashton), Anthony Kirks (Angie), Connor King, Cooper King, Gracie King, and Carter King. Great-grandchildren, Halle and Morgan Jefferson, Sadie Kirks and Ezra Kirks.  Brother, Don Linn (Janine), Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Bernadine Davis, several nephews and special cousin, Charla Knight (Keith).
