Larry Joe Henry, 82 of Independence, Kansas passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the Journey Home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Larry was born on March 1, 1941 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Robert and Leora (Adams) Henry. Larry attended the Labette County schools. On August 14, 1959, Larry married Esther Smith in Cherryvale, Kansas at the Nazarene Church parsonage. Through the years Larry and Esther welcomed two children, Cindy and Kevin. Larry worked as a draftsman for 20 plus years before opening his own small engine repair shop in the mid-1990s, Henry’s Small Engines. Larry devoted 20 plus years to helping numerous people all over southeast Kansas with their small engines. In 2010 Larry retired and closed the shop. Larry was a member of the Lions Club and loved to spend his free time fishing, helping others with the small engines, cutting wood and reading western novels. Most of all he loved the time he spent with his family, especially his four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Leora Henry.
Larry’s legacy will live on with his wife, Esther of Independence, daughter, Cindy Thompson and husband Steve of Caney, son, Kevin Henry and wife Amy of Independence, four grandchildren, Tyler Henry and wife Ashley, Alex Henry and wife Emily, and Micheal and Megan Henry, six great grandchildren, Ryker, McKinley, Olivia, Rylan, Kaison, and Kolby Henry, and one sister.
A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held at Potts Chapel in Independence on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions can be made in Larry’s name to the Journey Home, 900 Washington Blvd. Bartlesville, OK 74006.
