Larry Hart

Larry Lee Hart, 67, went to join his Lord Jesus on March 17th, 2023.  He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dana (Shepard) Hart; one daughter, Rosa Lee and husband Angel Gonzalez, one son, Levi Hart, and grandson Otto Hart, all of Independence; two sisters, Judy Hart Wheeler, of Girard, KS and Rita, and husband Jim Cloke, of Thayer, KS and many nieces and nephews.  His parents were Howard and Lorraine Hart, rural Cherryvale, KS, both deceased, and one sister, Carol Rodriguez, of Amarillo, TX, has also passed.  Larry was raised in the Parsons area and graduated from Labette County High School, Altamont, KS in 1973.  He was a member of Osage Church, McCune Ks, and long time member of the Independence community.  Larry served in the United States Marine Corps 1974-1988. He loved to scuba dive in the Pacific Ocean and sightseeing around the world in those years.  He owned Hart's Lawn Service in Independence 1990 - 2001, and cared for the lawns at Kansas University campus at Lawrence 2001-2009, and then Riverside Park and Zoo in Independence until his retirement in 2011.  He had a big laugh, a keen sense of humor, and loved almost anything BBQ.  He was a man of integrity with a very generous spirit.  Larry enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandson. Memorials can be sent to Potts Chapel for Otto Hart's education fund.  A Celebration of Life Service with military honors will be held at Potts Chapel, 122 S. Penn Avenue, Independence, KS at 4:00 pm on Thursday, March 30, 2023. You are cordially invited to attend and share your remembrances of Larry. A visitation time will be held from 3 to 4 pm before the memorial service and a dinner is planned at 5:00 pm following for all family and friends, at the Church of the Brethren Fellowship Hall, 920 West Myrtle St. Independence, KS.  Food donations can be left at the fellowship hall from 2:30 pm until 4 pm for those who would like to contribute.
