Kristie A. Blaes, age 67, of Cherryvale, Kansas died Friday, July 30, 2010 at the Labette County Health Center due to complications of ALS. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Fathers Benjamin Shockey Stephen Mahn Thapwa officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Altar Society and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Kristie was born March 16, 1943 in Independence, Kansas to Charles Tiny L. and Vivian GG J. Hurd Moon. She grew up in Cherryvale, Kansas and graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1961. She then attended Independence Community College where she received her associates degree. Kristie then received her degree in Elementary Education from Pittsburg State University where she also received her Masters degree in Educational Administration. On June 10, 1961 Kristie married Robert Rabbit L. Blaes and he preceded her in death. Kristie was a columnist at the Independence Reporter for many years. She also taught and was the principal of the St. Andrews Catholic School in Independence, Kansas for 20 years. Kristie also taught St. Patricks Catholic School in Chanute, Kansas. Kristie was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, ADK sorority for teachers, Sisters Of Mercy, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Altar Society, Bowling League and the Civic Club in Cherryvale, Kansas. Survivors include two sons Bryan P. Blaes of Cherryvale, Kansas, Sean R. Blaes and wife Hung Tu of Olathe, Kansas one daughter Kelly Passauer and husband Mike of Cherryvale, Kansas one brother Paul Moon and wife Vickie of Fort Worth, Texas four grandchildren Chelsie Hough, Megan Zinser, Bryan Zinser and Hayleigh Passauer.
