Kenton Leon Holloway

Kenton Leon Holloway (MadDog) lost a hard-fought battle with Pulmonary FIbrosis in the early morning hours of February 4, 2024.  He was born December 2, 1955 in Independence, KS to Marvin E and Norma Lee (Orr) Holloway. If you knew him well, you know he wasn't shy about reminding folks when his birthday was approaching. 

He lived the majority of his life in/around Cherryvale and Independence, impacting many with his social magnet skills.   His early school years were in Independence, he attended Cherryvale schools for a period of time and then to the delight of Independence returned to Independence Schools.  He played football for the Bulldogs, something he was very proud of that, Coach Singleton stated numerous times, he should've played college ball.  He graduated from Independence High School in May of 1975 and in his words 'he did it'. 

On April 4, 1976, at the influence of Rob Davis, he joined the United States Marine Corp.  He achieved the rank of Lance Corporal and proudly served, being honorably discharged on April 4, 1979.  He was deployed on the USS Iwo Jima and USS New Orleans and got the see the world.  He was based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While stationed there he met his first wife, Cheryle, and of this union came his daughter, Callie Ann. Callie provided us with 3 beautiful grandchildren, Izaac Kenton, Bianca Delyte, and Olivia Ann. He became Papa and they were a very bright light in his life.

Some would refer to him as the Class Clown and in 1994 the Class Clown and the Class Brain, Mary Kay Beck, began a 30-year journey. Through this journey he gained 2 sons, Brent and Zach.  After a 15 1/2-year engagement he convinced Mary to marry him as he was facing shoulder replacement and in his words he didn't think she would marry a one armed man.  They were married on February 20, 2010 in Bartlesville OK by a woman wearing a moomaw with her great Dane and Brent and Zach as witnesses.

He worked at MEC in Neodesha Ks from January 1981 to September 2015 when they closed their doors, He went to work for Montgomery County Public Works in February 2016 and worked there until his retirement in September 2020. 

He enjoyed life, this included fishing, and just about any hunting he could do with duck hunting being one of his favorites.  He coached Brent and Zach in Youth Football at Neodesha, their team was the Broncos. Fishing took him on trips to Canada, Opening Day at Roaring River and fishing off the banks or out of the boat.  In 2005 he added a Road King to life's enjoyment and in 2007 he and Mary started their yearly cycle trips.  Joe Leon and Sheila Stark were roped into these adventures in 2009 and with Joe as our Road Captain off we went until 2015. 

He was a proud member of the Marine Corp League and the Military Order of the Devil Dogs. Due to health issues he was unable to attend the conferences that would allow him to advance in the Devil Dogs.  With the support of several of his Leaguers he was granted an exemption and on October 29, 2023 he achieved the rank of Pedigree Devil Dog in a ceremony held in our front room. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary, daughter, Callie Ann, sons, Brent and Zach, grandchildren, Izaac, Bianca and Olivia.   He is also survived by his brother, Robert (Robbie) Neal and a sister, Deana.  A niece, Lindsey, and nephew, Kyle.  He is also survived by his beloved hunting buddy, Abby, and Kitty.   

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Norma. His beloved duck hunting buddy, Chase, and numerous other hunting dogs.  

Visitation will be held at Potts Chapel in Independence on Friday, February 9, 2024 with the family greeting friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be held at Potts Chapel in Independence on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 11:00am with burial immediately following with full military honors at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Following the visitation on Friday, the family would like to invite you to a dinner at the VFW in Independence.
