Kenneth Smith

Kenneth M. Smith (Kenny), 78, of Independence KS passed away Wednesday July 26, 2017 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.
Kenny Smith was born February 20, 1939 to Lerch Jay Smith and Ethel May Smith. He grew up in Neodesha Kansas and attended Neodesha Primary schools, later graduating from Neodesha Senior High. Kenny married Shirley Cooper June 24, 1967 and made their home in Independence Kansas where He worked as a mechanic at the local Ford Garage, later starting work at the Cement plant. Kenny retired from ACC in 2003. He was an active member of the First Christian Church.
The family will receive friends 5-8 pm Friday July 28, 2017 at Potts Chapel. Celebration of life will be reverend by Mark Lyon at 10 am July 29, 2017 at First Christian Church of Independence Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, sons Steven Smith (Sycamore, KS), Kyle Smith (Iola, KS), and grandson Shane Smith (Sycamore, KS). Survivors include Wife Shirley Smith (Independence, KS), Children Jay and Cindy Smith (Grove, OK) Sharlene and Gene Lewis (Winfield, KS) and Michelle Smith (Sycamore, KS). Kenny ‘s grandchildren include Jami and Ryan Boydston (Kansas City, MO), Miranda and Ian McKellar (Salina, KS), Rebecca and Evan Brown (Winfield, KS), Shelby Smith (Sycamore. KS), Emily Lewis (Winfield, KS), Dallas and Toni Merritt, Wesley Merritt, and Ashley Jordan.
In leu of flowers, the family requests donations go to Open Arms at First Christian Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.
