Kenneth KB Bain Melander, age 88, of rural Tyro, Kansas died Monday, December 26, 2011 at his home in rural Tyro, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Tyro Christian Church with the Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisonville Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Fawn Creek Cemetery and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Kenneth KB Bain Melander was born May 16, 1923 on the farmstead in rural Tyro, Kansas to Alfred and Rose Eva Bain Melander. Kenneth grew up on the farm and graduated from the Wayside School System in 1941. Kenneth worked as a farmer before working for Sinclair Pipeline and then for MM Contracting for over 30 years. Kenneth worked in the Oil Fields with both of his sons Chris and Steve and also ran the family farm. On December 14, 1946 Kenneth married Mildred Barragar in Independence, Kansas. The couple made their home in Independence, Kansas before moving to Wayside and later to the family farm in rural Tyro, Kansas. Kenneth was a member of the Methodist Church in Tyro and the Tyro Christian Church. He was also on the Fawn Creek Cemetery Board and was a past city councilman in Caney, Kansas. Survivors include his wife Mildred of the home two sons Chris Melander and wife Peggy and Steve Melander and wife Sherri both of rural Tyro, Kansas two sisters Louise Melander of Dallas, Texas and Eloise Swaney of Lawrence, Kansas eight grandchildren Amy Neuenschwander, Amanda Kent, Misty Melander, Airika Robins, Cody Melander, Chase Melander, Casey Melander, Erin Melander six great grandchildren Gage Melander, Michael Melander, Jai Robins, Aubrey Robins, Morgan Kent, and Madison Kent. Kenneth was preceded in death by one brother Howard and one grandson Josh Kenyon.
