Kathleen Grace Patrzykont, 89 died Jan.3, 2021 at Catholic Care Center, Bel Aire, KS where she had been a resident since December 2015. She had been a resident of Independence, Kansas for 45 years.
Kathleen was a loving, caring wife, mother grandmother and friend. Her children and grandchildren will remember her for the love and compassion she had for others, her love of life and her deep faith. She loved spending time with family and friends, caring for her flower gardens, round dancing with her late husband John, traveling, volunteering, and enjoying her cats and dogs
Kathleen was born May 29, 1931, at Maryville, MO. to Eugene James and Margaret Grace (Allen) King. She graduated from Conception High School, Conception, and MO and attended North West Missouri State College receiving a B.S. in Secondary Education. Upon graduation, she taught home economics at Craig High School in Craig MO. Later moving to Kansas City, KS, she began working for Gas Service Company of Kansas City as a home educator for cooking with gas stoves. She met the love of her life during this time. On July 25, 1958, she married John J. Patrzykont at Conception MO. The couple moved to Independence, KS in 1961. She began teaching in the Head Start Program in 1968. Seeing a need for quality day care for children to receive childcare, preschool services and proper nutrition, she organized and became the director of the Independence Day Care Center. She continued as director until her retirement in 1991. Upon retiring, she volunteered in the library at St. Andrew Catholic School, Independence, KS. While living in Independence she was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and St. Andrew Alter Society. She and her husband enjoyed many years of round dancing with the Circle I Round Dancers and traveling.
In 2006 she moved to Conway AK where she was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, involved in the seniors organization there, also volunteering in the church office. Kathleen volunteered many hours at the local Humane Society after storms helping to settle abandoned and misplaced animals until reuniting with their owners.
In December 2015, she moved to Bel Aire, KS, residing at the Catholic Care Center. The staff at the center loved Kathleen and her sweet spirit and loving personality. She resided there until her death. Her loving husband John Patrzykont preceded her in death. Mrs. Patrzykont is survived by her children Patti Patrzykont (Jeff Tredway), Wichita, KS, granddaughter Kaitlin (Juan), great-grandson Marcos, granddaughter Krysta, Dr. John Patrzykont (Mary), Coffeyville, KS, grandsons, Aaron (Brooke) and Christian (Paige) and daughter, Jeanie Brewster-Deters (Steve), St. Charles, MO, grandson Hunter (Sarah) granddaughter Samantha (Zachary).
A rosary will be held at 1:00p.m at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Independence, KS on Friday, January 29, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated after the rosary at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church with graveside immediately following. Arrangements are entrusted to Potts Chapel. Masks and social distancing of allowing one pew between families will be followed during the services at the church, due to COVID-19.
