Katherine Katie A. Burton, 91, of Independence died Monday, December 31, 2012 at Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2013 at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with Father Stephen Mahn Thopwa officiating. Burial will follow Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Veterans Field of Honor in Lawton, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Potts Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with reciting of the Rosary at 6:00pm. The family has suggested memorials to the St. Andrew Catholic School of Independence and contributions may be left at Potts Chapel in Independence. Katie was born November 27, 1921 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the daughter of Ben and Lucey Gunther Rempe. She grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and attended the Scared Heart Catholic School in Oklahoma, City. On June 8, 1941 in Oklahoma City Katie was united in marriage to Grady Burton. He preceded Katie in death in March of 1989. She made her home in Independence since 1992. Katie was the manager of the Lawton Air Field Restaurant for the City of Lawton, Oklahoma. She was a member of the St. Andrew Ladies Auxiliary and St. Andrew Catholic Church. Survivors include a son, Pat Burton of Independence, Ks. one brother, Jerry Rempe of Okema, Okla. two sisters, Maglin Gonzles of San Diego, Calif., and Ann Abner of Virgina two grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
