Karla Jean Kemp of Independence, Kansas passed away at St. Joe’s Hospital in Wichita, Kansas during the late morning hours of July 1st, at the age of 65. Karla was born and raised in Independence, Kansas, where she also graduated from high school in 1975. She then attended Independence Community Junior College and graduated shortly after. At ICJC, Karla was a cheerleader and cheered on the 1977 national JUCO basketball champions. Karla spent most of her life in Independence surrounded by her family. In June of 1981, Karla had her one and only child. Later, she gained three grandchildren, who meant the world to her.
Karla was a very free-spirited and independent woman. She enjoyed constantly taking pictures, going shopping, playing board games, and Chiefs football. However, what Karla valued most was her family; she spent all 65 years of her life devoted to loving her family with all her heart and doing whatever she could for them. Karla especially dedicated everything she had to her grandchildren: attending every sporting event of theirs, spending every second with them, and most importantly, being there for them constantly.
Karla is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Stacie and Scottie Garrett, two grandsons: Levi Kemp and Braxton Garrett, one granddaughter: Rhylie Powell, and her mother: Nelda Kemp. She is proceeded in death by her father: Bill Kemp.
