Karen Manderscheid, age 77, a devoted wife, loving mother, talented artist, and longtime hairstylist, passed away February 20, 2025, at Montgomery Place in Independence, KS. She leaves behind a legacy of creativity, warmth, and dedication that touched the lives of so many. Born to Finley and Betty Waterman of Altoona, KS, Karen was baptized in the Altoona Christian Church. Karen attended Altoona High School, and after graduation she went to cosmetology school.
Karen was not only a gifted stylist but also a smart and savvy business owner. Through years of hard work and passion, she built a career that brought confidence and joy to her clients. Her artistry extended beyond hairstyling—she had a keen eye for beauty in all forms, expressing herself through various creative endeavors. Karen brought her love of nature to life through her beautiful paintings. Whether she painted birds, flowers, or her beloved Grand Teton Mountains in Wyoming, her vision would transport the viewer to the most magical places.
Above all, Karen was deeply devoted to her family. She cherished her loved ones and created a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Her strength, kindness, and wisdom will be forever missed but never forgotten. She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Manderscheid, her son, Mark Manderscheid (daughter in law, Kathy and grandsons Dalton and Clayton, along with great grandson, Mason and great granddaughter, Olivia), her daughter, Janet Kingman (son in law, Joe and granddaughter, Sophie), her son, Brian Manderscheid (granddaughter Jasmine), and her son, Jason Manderscheid (granddaughters Elowen and Thora).
A funeral service honoring Karen will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 10:00 am, at Potts Funeral Home in Independence, KS. She will be buried next to her loving parents in the Altoona Cemetery after the service. Karen’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
