Independence

June Rose Byers (Spader) Brant, of Independence, passed away on August 12, 2019 at Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas surrounded by her family. A Celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, August 16, 2019, at the Independence Church of Christ in Independence, Kansas. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

June was born on June 27, 1930. She was the daughter of Roy Leslie and Minnie Ardelphia (Parks) Byers. She graduated from Dewey High School and went on to graduate from Bartlesville Business College in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. After finishing school, she worked at the United Dryers Association in Bartlesville for a short six months, and then worked as a designer at Hains & Son Greenhouse, also in Bartlesville. In 1964 she began work at Hassleman’s Floral, in Independence, as a designer. Later she worked as a secretary for Independence Realty and finally retired as a secretary from Layton/Equinox Oil of Independence.

June married her first husband in Eureka Springs in 1950. She and Frank Harvey Spader had three children. They later divorced. She married her second husband, Paul James Brant in 1963 in Independence. June enjoyed sewing, arranging flowers, collecting and creating jewelry, and her family remembers her as the “best cook”, and they will remember the candies she always hid under her mattress.

June is preceded in death by her second husband Paul, her daughter Robin (Spader) Hallner, and her siblings: Lucille Warren, of Snyder, Texas, Imogene Byers, of Bartlesville, Arlie Byers, of Bartlesville, Leroy Byers, of Lewisville, Texas, and two daughter-in-laws: Donna Spader and Marianna Brant.

June’s memory will live on through two sons Rodney Spader and Richard Brant, daughter Rozalyn (Larry) Boggs, son-in-law Ted Hallner, 8 grandchildren: Juli Brant, Lori Rutland, Jason (Miranda) Brant, Misti (Jake) Bond, Jodi (Delvin) Reyes, April (Michael) Zillifro, Troy (Gina) Spader and Eric (Ashley) Frye, 23 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
