Julia W. Douglass

May 11, 1943 — March 16, 2026

Independence, Kansas

Julia W. Douglass, a cherished mother, beloved wife, and devoted grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on May 11, 1943, in Pratt, Kansas, to William and Bertha Epley, Julia's life was a testament to love, family, and community. She found her home in Independence, Kansas, in 1972, a place that became woven into the fabric of her heart.

On May 21, 1988, Julia married her beloved husband, Lonnie "Joe" Douglass, and together they cultivated a life rich in laughter, love, and shared dreams. As a proud mother to Leland E. Cline, Darren E. Cline, and step daughter, Elizabeth A. Douglass, she embraced her role with a warmth that touched everyone around her.

Julia's career was marked by her dedication as a Department Manager at Gibson's and Walmart, where she infused her work with the same care she gave her family. She was a vibrant member of the Christian Motorcyclist Association and found joy in giving back to her community by volunteering at Crystal Brook Church and Hanna's House.

Those who knew Julia will forever remember her love for cooking, particularly her infamous cookies, which she generously baked for her sons and anyone who happened to visit. With a heartfelt touch, she'd write their son's names on each of their cookies, making every batch a special gift from her kitchen.

Julia leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and joy, cherished by her husband Joe, her son's Leland (Donna) of Noble, Oklahoma, Darren (Tania) of Orlando, Florida, her Step-daughter, Elizabeth of Morrison, Illinois, and her six grandchildren, including six  precious great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

In remembrance of Julia's remarkable life, a visitation will be held at Potts Chapel of Independence Kansas, on Friday, March 20th, 2026 from 5-7 P.M.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21st, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at the Crystal Brook Church in Independence, Kansas, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her spirit and share cherished memories. She will be laid to rest following the service at Mount Hope, in Independence, Kansas, where her love will eternally embrace the earth she held dear.

Julia W. Douglass will be profoundly missed, but her warmth and laughter will continue to illuminate the hearts of those who loved her. May her spirit soar free, enveloping us in the same love she so graciously shared during her time with us. Julia was preceded in death by her mother Bertha E. Epley (Elliot), her father, William R. Epley, her brother, Lloyd Chancellor, her sisters, Marilyn Bale, Margaret Heiser, and Emabel Berryman.

In memory of Julia, memorial donations will be made to the Hanna House.
