Joyce Harriet "Sallie" Kahler passed away on December 20th, 2016 at her home in Independence, KS. She was born July 29, 1925 in Duluth, MN to Earl and Harriet J (Ose) Hazen. Her mother passed early in her life and she was raised by her Father and Step-mother Nora (Berg) Hazen.
She was raised in Minnesota and then moved to Eau Clair, Wisconsin. This is where she attended School, after graduating from High School in 1943. She then moved back to Minneapolis, MN and attended Minnesota School of Business. After graduation, she married Arthur Kahler in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on December 16th, 1945. They lived in Bartlesville, OK, Wichita KS, Ulysses KS, Pampa TX, Independence KS. she also Lived in Parsons, KS.
She worked various jobs in her lifetime. These consisted of bookkeeper, secretary, receptionist and numerous other office positions. She then retired in 1987 while residing in Independence KS. She has lived with her daughter, Sharon, for the last 3 years. Sallie enjoyed crocheting and loved playing the organ and piano. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by 1 Brother; Daniel Hazen, 3 Children, Terry Kahler, and wife Faye of Neosho, MO, David Kahler and wife Jan, of Skiatook, OK, and Sharon Miller and husband Les, of Independence, KS. She is survived by several grandchildren; Jay Near, Lori and Terry Barnett, Kristi and David Durbin, Jennifer and Kevin Casella, Matt and Abby Kahler, Todd and Lisa Kahler, Heather and Michael Lindsey and Kayla Bridwell. She had 17 Great Grandchildren and 15 Great, Great Grandchildren. She also had several nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by husband, sister, parents and 2 grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held at Pott's Chapel , 122 S. Penn, Independence, KS on December 22, 2016 from 6-8 pm . A celebration of her life will be held at 2pm on December 23rd, 2016 at Potts Chapel 122 S. Penn in Independence KS. and Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, KS.
Memorials may be left at Pott's Funeral home to the Shriner's Hospital or Hometown Hospice in honor of Joyce "Sallie" Kahler. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
