Joseph F. Martinez
On the morning of May 17, 2018, the world lost the most wonderful man and Heaven gained a Saint. Joe was selfless, humble, kind, gentle, loving, protecting, providing, and HILARIUOS. These are just some of this man's best qualities. But by far, his faith in God has been the epicenter of this family and his life-long legacy. 100 years old, just as he always knew he'd live to be. He was our daddy, grandpa and for a very long time, he was our best friend. Cherished memories of Joe will forever live on from walks picking up cans, working in the garden, rides in the truck, mowing the cemetery, and testing batteries, we will miss hearing all the stories. The way he loved his wife is the way all men should love their wives and it was a perfect example of the kind of marriage we should strive to have.
If you know our family and have never met this man, rest assured you knew him too. If we've ever made you laugh, that is his sense of humor. If you've ever been caught by our quick come backs, that is his wit. If you have ever been helped by one of us, that is his servants heart. If you've ever been prayed for by us, that is his faith. If you've ever been given anything from us with no strings attached, that is his generosity. To know any of us is to know him in some way. We are his legacy and we are EVERYWHERE.
Joe's memory will carry on with his sons; Mario (Dooley) Martinez of Buena Park, CA, Trino (Laticia) Martinez of Los Angeles, CA, Ceasar (Shari) Martinez, of Independence, KS, Terry (Sherry) Martinez, of Independence, KS, and Joel (Timmie) Martinez, daughters; Yvette (Mike) Sumner, of Independence, KS, Yvonne Martinez, of Independence, KS, Lisa (Mike) Flaig, of Lawrence, KS, and Genevieve Martinez, of Independence, KS, 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Reciting of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, May 23rd at Potts Chapel in Independence, KS. at 4:30 pm with visitation following until 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 24th at St. Andrew Catholic Church with interment following at Calvary Cemetery.
