John Norman Wilson, age 85 of Independence, Kansas died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Darren Melton of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the First Church of the Nazarene or the Montgomery Place and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. John Norman Wilson was born November 27, 1926 in Independence, Kansas to James Robert and Fleda Margaret Doty Wilson. John grew up in Independence, Kansas and attended the Independence School System. John went to work in the Aircraft Industry in Wichita, Kansas before entering the United States Army and served during World War II until his honorable discharge. On September 17, 1948 John married Doris Lesslie in Independence, Kansas where they made their home. John worked at Starcraft, Cobalt Boats and Hackney retiring in 1989. After retirement John was a carpenter. Survivors include his wife Doris of the home one son John Michael Wilson and wife Chris of Coffeyville, Kansas one daughter Karen Rankin of Havana Lake one sister Betty Lou and husband David Dobson of Coffeyville, Kansas 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
