JOHN WERNER JR.,84, OF INDEPENDENCE, DIED FRIDAY MORNING AT HIS HOME. SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 2:00 PM TUESDAY MARCH 23, 2010 AT THE POTTS CHAPEL INDEPENDENCE WITH THE REVEREND LYNDAL WERNER OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST OFFICATING. INTRMENT WILL BE AT MONT HOPE CEMETERY UNDER THE DIRECTION S OF POTTS CHAPEL. VISITATION WILL BE MONDAY MARCH 22, 2010, AT THE POTTS CHAPEL FROM NOON TO 8:OOPM WITH FAMILY RECEIVING FRIENDS FROM 6:30 TO 8:00PM. MR. WERNER JOINED THE UNITED STATES ARMY IN 1943. HE MADE THE DDAY LANDING ON JUNE 6, 1944. HE WAS A P.O.W. AND UPON ESCAPE WAS TAKED IN BY THE FRENCH UNDERGROUND. HE RECEIVED MANY MEDALS AND HONORS INCLUDING: SILVER SERVICE STAR, BRONZE STAR, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THEATRE RIBBON. HE WAS HONORABLY DISCHARDED IN NOVEMBER 1945. IN 2007, MR WERNER WAS AWARDED THE FRENCH LEGION OF HONOR, THE HIGHEST HONOR BESTOWED BY THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT. HE OPERATED WERNERS CAF FOR MANY YEARS IN OKLAHOMA, CITY, NOWATA,OK, AND INDEPENDENCE,KS. MOVING HERE IN 1954. HE LATER OWNED AND OPERATED A MANUFACTURING COMPANY THAT PRODUCED AND LEASED COMMERCIAL DISHWASHERS FOR THE RESTURANT INDUSTRY. IN 1974, ALONG WITH HIS TWO SONS, TERRY AND MICKEY, HE STARTED WERNER PIPE SERVICE THAT REMAINS IN OPERATIONS TODAY. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST,LIFE MEMBER OF THE VFW,AND 35TH DIVISION ASSOCIATION. HE MARRIED BILLYE JEAN DAVIS ON APRIL 30, 1947, IN GAINESVILLE, TX AND SHE SURVIVES OF THE HOME. IN ADDITION TO HIS WIDO, SURVIVORS INCLUDE THREE CHILDREN, TERRY WAYNE OF INDEPENDENCE, ROBERT MICHAEL, OF GROVE OK., AND TAMMY WILSON , OF INDEPENDENCE AND 13 GRANDCHILDREN AND 21 GREATGRANDCHILDREN. HE IS SURVIVED BY 4 BROTHERS BOB WERNER,OF DUNCAN,OK, ZEBEDEE WERNER OF DUNCAN,OK AND GENE WERNER, OF MUSKOGEE,OK. ANDLYNDAL WRNER, OF CHANDLER,OK. MEMORIALS CAN BE MADE TO THE 35TH DIVISION MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION CARE OF POTTS FUNERAL HOME.
