Jack attended school in Wayside and Havana,KS, until the 8th grade when Wayside consolidated with the Caney school district. He graduated from high school there in 1973. Jack then attended Coffeyville Community College on a football scholarship in the fall of 1973 before transferring to Kansas State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 1977. Upon graduation Jack returned home to work for the family business, Horton Oil Company. After this time and until his passing, Jack maintained Horton Oil Company along with his son in Wayside, KS and the surrounding area.
He was united in marriage with Patricia Estes on May 31, 1980. Together they had 3 children. Jack lived his life with them in mind. At all times, Jack put the interests of others above his. His love of Christ made him a living example of Matthew 22:37-39. He loved cooking for his family and just being with them and knowing that they were ok.
