John Carter

John Pat Carter, age 77, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas with John White officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2012 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. John Pat Carter was born July 16, 1934 in Cherryvale, Kansas to John and Leora Darling Carter. John attended and graduated from the Cherryvale High School in 1954. On February 9, 1968 John married Barbara L. Shepard in Miami, Oklahoma. John was a retired electrician for Local 226 in Topeka, Kansas he was on the library board for 4 years and taught NJATC classes in Parsons at the Union Hall. John loved making wood projects, loved to putter and work in the yard and loved to bird watch. Survivors include his wife of the home two sons Sean P. Carter of Independence, Kansas and Brian D. Carter of Lennapah, Oklahoma one brother Jack Carter of Independence, Kansas one sister Greta Carter of San Diego, California 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jerry of Riverside, California.
