Joella Dee Pond was born March 13, 1929, in Caney, Kansas, the first of five children to Irving McKinley and Doris Virginia Dillon Pond. She and her siblings grew up following her fathers adventures in employment throughout southeast Kansas, attending many years in Caney schools. Joella graduated from Caney High School on May 16, 1947. That very evening in her parents home in Caney she married Donald Eugene Fuqua. Joella and Don made their home in Caney for 65 years, raising their two sons, Randall Eugene Fuqua and David Edward Fuqua. In her employment years, Joella worked briefly at 3M Company, Independence, two years in bookkeeping at Caney Hospital, and then retired in 1986 after 16 years from Phillips Petroleum and Applied Automation, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. To say that Joella loved playing the organ and piano would be an understatement. Selftaught on the keyboard, Joella first accompanied the Fuqua brothers as they sang on the radio. She taught piano lessons to many Caney and area residents and thoroughly enjoyed playing all over southeast Kansas for the Born Again Trio. Through the years, the Fuqua family loved singing around the piano as Joella played through the hymnal. For over 50 years she was the organistpianist at First Baptist Church, Caney, where husband, Donald, directed the music. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and spoiling her grandchildren. She is survived by husband Donald of the home sons Randy Fuqua and wife Rita of Wichita, Kansas and David Fuqua and wife Marilyn of Caney grandchildren Jill Fuqua of Wichita, Donnie Fuqua and wife Laura of Independence, Kansas, and Cyndi and husband Edgard Torres of Caney and two great grandchildren, Piper Leigh Fuqua, Independence, and Aubrey Lyn Torres, Caney sisters Jean Etta Scott of Coffeyville, Jane Beach and husband Loye of Andover, Kansas, Carol Payne of Savannah, Georgia, brother Austin Pond of Clearwater, Kansas and a host of nieces and nephews, kin and family. She was preceded in death by her parents
