Joe Bustos

Joe V. Bustos, age 93 of Independence, Kansas died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at his home in Independence, Kansas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the St. Andrew's Catholic Church with the Father Stephen Mahn Thapwa officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel.

Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

The family has suggested memorials to the Gansel House or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

Joe was born February 14, 1923 in Independence, Kansas to Isaac and Valentina (Honesto) Bustos. Joe grew up in Independence, Kansas and attended schools in Independence. Joe worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 30 plus years until his retirement.

In October of 1954 Joe married Virginia Sanchez in Independence, Kansas where the couple made their home. Joe was a member of the St. Andrew's Catholic Church. He loved to fish, Dance and travel.

Survivors include one son Richard Bustos and wife Teresa of Chandler, Arizona; four daughters Linda Bustos of Thornton, Colorado and Theresa Howell of Elk City, Kansas, Toni Jackson of California and Carol Vaca of Kansas City; one brother Louis Bustos of Coffeyville, Kansas; two sisters Amelia Carr of Independence, Kansas and Delphina Savedra of Independence, Missouri; four grandchildren Ginny Jones of Independence, Carmen Walker and Michelle Anderson both of Kerney, Nebraska and Jeanette Medina of Chandler, Arizona and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
