JoAnn Allen, 77, of Liberty, Kansas passed away peacefully early Saturday morning November 13, 2010 surrounded by family and friends in her home of 57 years after a long but courageous battle. Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the Liberty Cemetery in Liberty, Kansas with Mike Graham, chaplain of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, officiating. Friends may sign the register book from 12noon until 8 P.M. Monday with the family receiving friends from 6 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at Potts Chapel of Cherryvale. Memorial remembrances are strongly suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to P.O. Box 801, Independence, Kansas 67301. Etta JoAnn Allen was born June 23, 1933 at Chanute, Kansas the daughter of Delbert Huss and Mildred Osborn Huss. She grew up in the Thayer and Galesburg area and graduated from Thayer High School in 1951. She was known by loving family members as Nanny Jo and by her many friends as Twiggy. She was involved in many activities in Liberty and amassed many friends. On June 6, 1953 in Erie, Kansas she was united in marriage to Charles Allen and he survives at the home. She worked for Automotive Controls and retired from the Cherryvale Care Center mastering many jobs. She especially enjoyed the Thursday Night Bunch at a local eatery. Survivors include husband Charles of the home, two sons Brad Allen and his wife Pam of the home in Liberty, Stacy Allen and his wife Diane of Shiloh, Tennessee, 2 brothers Dean Huss of Yucipia, California, Jim Huss of Rialto, California, 4 sisters, Gladys Jeans of Thayer, Kansas, Hope Richardson of Stafford, Missouri, Betty Blaker of Aberdeen, Idaho, Barbara Phillips of Hesston, Kansas 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
