Jimmy Ray Hockett, age 67, of Caney, Kansas died Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at his home in Caney, Kansas. Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2013 with Jim Therrien officiating at the Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the American Legion and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Jimmy was born February 5, 1946 in Garden City, Kansas to Ervin Allen and Dolly Taton Hockett. Jimmy grew up in Satanta, Hugoton, and Caney, Kansas. Jimmy graduated from the Caney High School in 1964. Jimmy then entered the United States Army and served in Vietnam until his honorable discharge. In 1966 Jimmy married Patricia K. Vernon and the couple later divorced. Jimmy worked for Reda Pump and retired after 27 years. He then worked for Pat Scutter in the Oil Fields and for the Pallet Plant in Caney, Kansas. He was a member of the American Legion in Caney, Kansas. Survivors include two sons Clayton and wife Sandy Hockett of Caney, Kansas and Jim and wife Bonnie Hockett of Cherryvale, Kansas mother Dolly Hockett of Caney, Kansas brothers Jack Hockett and John and wife Coetta Hockett both of Caney, Kansas sisters Joyce and husband Jerry Anderson of Clay City, Illinois and Judy and husband Gary Bennett of Dewey, Oklahoma grandchildren Nick and Cody Hockett both of Cherryvale, Kansas numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces. He was preceded in death by his father three brothers, Gene Hockett, Jerry Hockett and Joe Hockett and one sister Mary Agnus Hockett.
