Jim Wilson, 84, of Independence passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016, at the Montgomery Place Independence.
Jim was born November 15, 1931 in Independence, Kansas the son of George and Anna (Frye) Wilson. He grew up in Independence and graduated from the Independence School System and also had some college courses.
On April 8, 1961 in Miami, Oklahoma Jim was united in marriage to Stella Heck and the couple made their home in Independence. Stella survives at the home.
Jim was employed by the City of Independence and was the Fire Chief he retired after 31 years as a fireman and Fire Chief of the Independence Fire Department.
Survivors include Stella his wife of the home and two sons James D. Wilson and wife Kaylinda of Cherryvale, KS. Robin W. Wilson and wife Judy of Independence, KS. Two daughters Sharon L. Leedy and husband Raymond of Neodesha, Patti J. Timmons and husband Mike of Fredonia, KS. One sister Lillian Moyer of Independence, KS. Fourteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews'
The family has suggested memorials to the Church of the Brethren or AWOL and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel Independence.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and two sisters.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Potts Chapel Independence with the Reverend Harold Groth officiating.
Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel.
Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a. m. to 8:00 p. m. Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Potts Chapel with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p.m.
