Jim Gordon, 61, of Choctaw, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at McLoud Nursing Center in McLoud, Oklahoma.
James Lee Gordon was born December 16, 1952 in Arkansas City, Kansas, the first of four children to Clair Frank Gordon and Shirley Joan Jarvis Gordon. Jim grew up and attended schools in Caney, Kansas, graduating high school there in 1971. He attended Coffeyville Junior College, Coffeyville, Kansas before enlisting in the United States Army in 1972.
Jims initial training was as a Computer and Office Machine Operator. His expertise in this field ultimately guided him to be training and qualification in Information Systems management. Jims Army and Army National Guard career included multiple tours of duty in Germany, Kuwait, and Iraq. He retired as a Master Sergeant, with honors and acclaim, after serving 40 years.
Jim was a lifetime member of The Enlisted Association of the National Guard U.S., as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Guard Association of Oklahoma.
Survivors blessed by his memory are his parents Clair and Joan Gordon of Caney, brothers Rick Gordon and wife Char of Wichita, KS, and Steve Gordon and wife Cathy of Shawnee, KS, his sister Susan House and husband Scott of Delaware, OK, his many loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives. To attempt to list Jims friends and Army brethren across the globe also blessed by his memory would be too numerous to list here, but each would say Jim we salute you.
A graveside Celebration of Life memorial service with full military honors is scheduled to be held at 11:00am, Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Bethel Cemetery, Jefferson, Kansas, with Evangelist David Bycroft, Tyro Christian Church officiating.
Friends may sign the memorial register at the Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney, beginning Monday, December 8, 2014, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. The family will be present to receive friends at the Chapel on Friday, December 12, beginning at 4:00 thru 8:00 p.m. Services and visitation are under the direction of Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorial donations be made to the CanKan Dream Builders Friends of the Library, to Fisher House Foundation by going to www.fisherhouse.org, or to the donors organization of choice in memory of Jim Gordon. Donations can be left at the Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney.
