Jill Hodges, 93, Coffeyville, Kansas native, formerly of Caney, Kansas passed away on her birthday, December 4, 2014 at her daughters home near Caney.
Jill Ann Winters was born December 4, 1921, in
Coffeyville, the second of two children to Orville Jack Winters and Fern Kyle Hiller Winters. Jill grew up and attended schools in Coffeyville, was a proud member of the drum and bugle corps, and graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1938. She earned her Associates degree from Coffeyville Junior College in 1940 and attended Kansas State University in Manhattan.
Jill married Wilfred L. Dub Hodges of Caney on
June 21, 1942. She raised her family of five children in Kansas, Texas, and California, before returning to Coffeyville in 1969 where she was clerk for Coffeyville Board of Education for many years. In 2006, she moved to a retirement community in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jill was a member of the Caney United Methodist Church where she was the pianist, organist, choir member, and active in the UMW. Jill was a member of the Caney Golf Club and enjoyed the Ladies Night League. Jill served with the American Red Cross and facilitated the ARC blood mobile in Caney for many years.
Blessed by her memory are her surviving loved ones, her five children daughters Jackie Gilmore of Jackson, Wyoming, Kyle Burch and husband Roger of Caney, and Laurie Dean of Kansas City, Missouri, sons Mike Hodges and wife Cindy of Lafayette, California, and Mark Hodges of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren Christian Burch, Amy Whittington, Kelsey Schmalz, Melissa Robbins, Clint Hodges. Michael Hodges, and Jackson Hodges, eight great grand children, Fletcher, Henley, Gretel, Oliver, Royce, Cale, Wyatt, and Bennett, and one more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Jack Winters.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at the Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney, with Chaplain Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney under the direction of Potts Chapel Funeral Home of Caney. Online condolences may also be left at www.pottsfuneralhome.com. Memorial donations are suggested to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and can be left with Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney.
