Jesse Ortega

Jesse Fidel Ortega, age 87 of Independence, Kansas died Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the St. Andrew Parish Hall with the Father Andrew Heiman officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Potts Chapel. The family has suggested memorials to the American Kidney Association and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Jesse Fidel Ortega was born February 17, 1925 in Mound Valley, Kansas to Salvador and Loretta Leon Ortega. Jesse grew up in the Mound Valley and the Independence, Kansas area. In April of 1943 Jesse married Beatrice Perez in Independence, Kansas and she preceded him in death. In 1978 Jesse married Elvira Cortez and she also preceded him in death. Jesse worked in the Maintenance Department for ARCO retiring after 20 years. He was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church. Survivors include four sons Richard Ortega, Steve Ortega, David Ortega, and John Ortega one daughter Judy Ballew three step sons Allen Ogle, Dale Ogle and Donnie Ogle one step daughter Marsha Humphries one brother Danny Hernandez two sisters Mary Lopez and Josephine Riggs six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Elvira and Beatirce and one brother Joe S. Hernandez.
