Jerry Moore

Jerry L. Moore, age 75, of Independence, Kansas died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Potts Chapel of Independence and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Church of Christ in Coffeyville, Kansas with Minister Clint Howard officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Jerry was born March 16, 1936 in Independence, Kansas to Samuel Albert and Violet Edith Thompson Moore. He attended school in Independence, Kansas and attended the Independence Community College Cosmetology Program. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960, when he was honorably discharged. He married Ruth McCoy in Cherryvale, Kansas on December 31, 1961. He worked for Boeing in Wichita, Kansas and also attended the Wichita School of Barbering. He bought a barber shop in Independence, Kansas in 1965, naming it Moores Barber Center. He owned and ran it for 40 years before retiring due to illness. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Moore, of the home in Independence, Kansas three sons, Christopher Moore, Adam Moore and Samuel Moore, all of Independence, Kansas one daughter, Susan Heath of Coffeyville, Kansas five grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.
