Jerry Lee Haymaker, age 81 of Copan, Oklahoma passed away Friday, March 12, 2021 at the Medicalodges in Dewey, Oklahoma.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Robbins Cemetery in Dearing, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel.
Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 16, 2021 with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Potts Chapel. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com. Due to Covid restrictions masks are required.
The family has suggested memorials to the Shriners’ Children’s Hospital or to the American Diabetes Association and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.
Jerry was born January 22, 1940 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Clarence and Violet (Fry) Haymaker. Jerry grew up in Blackwell and in Charleroi, Pennsylvania before moving to Independence, Kansas at the age of 7. Jerry graduated from the Independence High School in 1958 he then graduated from Vo-Tech College in Tulsa, Oklahoma with a Design Draftsman degree. He worked for Sinclair Oil Company before working for Phillips Petroleum for many years retiring in 1993.
On June 5, 1981 Jerry married Harriet Foster in Caney, Kansas where the couple made their home. They moved several places while Jerry was working for Phillips. They moved to Copan, Oklahoma in 2010. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Coffeyville, Kansas and the Southern Baptist Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. When Jerry was young he liked to fish but in later years he loved spending time with family, his cat, and working in the yard.
Survivors include his wife Harriet of the home; daughter Jill Haymaker-Stinnett of Copan, Oklahoma; step daughter LaMay Miller of Dewey, Oklahoma; step son Dirk Hayes of Quitman, Mississippi; sister Kay Woolfolk of rural Coffeyville, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by one son Michael Haymaker in 1994.
