Jerry Bright

Jerry Dean Bright age 63 of Independence, Kansas died Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at his home in Independence, Kansas.

Memorial Services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Eldon Myers officiating.  Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.

Jerry was born July 11, 1957 in Independence, Kansas to William and Iona (Hull) Bright. He grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from the Independence High School. Jerry worked several different places. Jerry was extremely involved in organizations in Independence, Kansas including

Community Mission for Improved Housing Board of Directors (Founding Member), SeeKan CDI Board of Directors, Home Sweet Home Ministries Board of Directors, Community Access Center Board of Directors, City of Independence Blight and Beautification Committee, City of Independence Complete Count Census Committee, City of Independence Strategic Plan Advisory Committee, Chamber of Commerce Pride Committee, Chamber of Commerce Leadership Independence Class of 2017, Creator of Chamber of Commerce Pride Committee’s “Investing in Indy” and Creator of Bright Christmas. Jerry also won several awards for his involvement including Epsilon Sigma Alpha Beta Chapter Zeus Award, Community Mission for Improved Housing Appreciation Award, 2021 Independence Chamber of Commerce Diversity Task Force Spirit of Unity Award Recipient and the City of Independence Emergency Services Hero Award.

Survivors include one son Nicholas Bright of Independence, Kansas; granddaughter Mila of Independence, Kansas; one brother Wayne (Becky) Bright of Independence, Kansas; three sisters Patty Bustos of Florida, Jane (Larry) Yeubanks of Wichita and Judy McDonald of Kansas City. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers William, Mike, Joe, Guy and Jim.
