Independence

Jeannie Darlene Lucas, age 56, passed on the evening of November 3, 2019. She was a long time Independence, KS resident. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Potts Chapel at 1:00pm. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 6th, 12:00-7:00pm, family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00pm.

Jeannie was born on May 1, 1963 to Junior “Tody” Ray Clay and Mary Nell Bennett in Talihina, OK. Jeannie moved to Kansas in 1979 with her family. She attended Independence High School and later received her GED. Jeannie worked at Emerson Electric for several years. When it closed, she attended Coffeyville VoTech for medical coding. She worked coding for a few months then went to work at Cessna in Independence.

Jeannie married Mike Lucas on July 15, 2005 and they made their home south of Independence.

Jeannie’s love was spending time with family, her boys and granddaughter. When the boys were younger, you could find her at all their sporting events cheering them on.

Survivors include her husband of the home, Mike Lucas; two sons Nathan Walters (Kindra) of Winfield, KS and Dustin Clay-Oliver (Becca) of Tulsa, Ok; Mother Mary Bennett of Tulsa, OK; Step-mother Donna Clay of Daisy, OK; three sisters Tracie Moon (Mark) of Mound Valley, KS, Patti Seifert (Jack) of Cherryvale, KS and Tammy Moore (Ronnie) of Atoka, OK; two granddaughters Sky Laine Walters of Collinsville, OK and newborn Elea Rae Walters of Winfield, KS; nieces and nephews Kacie Anne Moon of Raymore, MO, Kara Ashton Moon of Lawrence, KS, Kalvin Seifert (Brittany) of Owasso, OK, Cody Seifert of Pryor, OK, Joshua Arterberry (Leandra) of Stringtown, OK, David Arterberry of Calera, OK and Daniel Arterberry (Kaydi) of Texas;  along with several aunts, uncles, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jeannie is preceded in death by her father Junior “Tody” Ray Clay, son Lance Allen Walters and brother Donald Arterberry
