Jean Marie (Chilcote) Asay Wright was born in Independence Ks on September 23, 1941, to George and Alberta Chilcote. Jean graduated from Southeast High School, Wichita Ks, in 1959. After graduating, Jean lived many years in Tampa, Florida, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Then she returned home to her beloved hometown - Independence, in 1980 when she reunited with her high school sweetheart Eddie Dale Wright and was crazy about him until he passed in 2012. Jean loved to entertain, cook, make holiday candy, and hosting class reunion parties. She always looked forward to Neewollah and enjoyed taking care of family members, especially her late grandparents Lee and Etolie Heape. She worked full time most of her life, first at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and later in purchasing at Mercy Hospital in Independence until retirement.

Jean is survived by her children, Brian Piersee, Doug Asay, Debbie Shadid, her brother Jim Chilcote and her sister Patty Davis. Four granddaughters and four great-grandchildren also survive her. She lived her last few years at Cherryvale Nursing Care, where she befriended many and loved many. Thank you to the staff who treated her like family for so many years. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. To leave the family a special message of condolence, please visit www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
