Jay Dee Nunneley, age 43, passed away early Saturday morning, May 23, 2015, at his home in rural Tyro, Kansas.
Jay Dee was born September 20, 1971 in Coffeyville, KS, the fifth of five children to John Sr. and LaDonna (Hicks) Nunneley.
Jay Dee was raised in Spring Valley, the area just north of Tyro. He attended Caney Valley High School, Caney, KS, and wore #60 for the Caney Bullpups football team. Jay Dee's family proclaimed him "a wild Indian that couldn't be tamed." He spent many days full throttle, yelling "she's gonna blow". He may have even wrecked a car or two. In 1992, at the young age of 21, Jay Dee Nunneley had a car accident that left him a quadriplegic for the remainder of his life. Jay Dee was a loving father and friend. He loved history and spent much time on his computer researching the next latest and greatest technology or current events. His passions in life were music, The Dallas Cowboys, The Nebraska Cornhuskers, and his family.
Survivors blessed by Jay Dee's memory are his parents; his children Jakob Price and Mercades Price; his sister, Cindy Nunneley Biehler and her daughter Macy Nunneley; brothers John 'Doc' Dewey Nunneley Jr, his oldest sons John Dewey Nunneley III and Josh Nunneley; Doc's wife Sharon Nunneley and their children, Jessica and husband Clint Crowe and Ashley Stauffer, Jeremiah, Josiah, Benjamin, Simion, and Lydia Nunneley; brother Jimmy Nunneley and wife Jana Nunneley, their children Joel Nunneley and Jessica and her husband Larry Smith, their children Tenzly and Logan; Uncle and Aunt, Gene and Joy Nunneley. Surviving cousins include: Regina and Dwayne Hedges, Ginger and Bobby Young, Samuel and Chrissy Nunneley and their families. His long time personal care takers Julie Jeffers and Rhonda Tibbets.
Jay Dee was preceded in death by his grandparents, Orville and Evelyn Hicks, and Chester and Estaline Nunneley; and his brother Joe Nunneley who passed July 20, 1994.
Friends may call at Potts Chapel Funeral Home, Caney, from 8-5pm Monday thru Friday to sign the memorial register. The family will be hosting visitation services Friday evening May 29, from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday May 30, 2015 at Caney Valley High School. Graveside service and interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney. Those attending the funeral are encouraged to wear Nebraska Cornhusker and Dallas Cowboys gear in honor of Jay Dee.
