Janie Virginia Minnich, age 83, of Cherryvale, Kansas died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Cherryvale Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Cherryvale, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale, Kansas with Pastor Charles Manyo officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale, Kansas and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Virginia was born August 3, 1925 in Canton, Oklahoma to Lawrence and Katie Helzer Hempel. She grew up in Southern, Oklahoma and attended schools in Southern. She moved to California as a teenager, where she worked in her uncles orchard and cannery. Virginia moved to Coffeyville, Kansas in the 1940s working at the Hotel Dale as an elevator operator and then for Ludowici-Celadon Tile Company. She then moved to Cherryvale, Kansas and worked for the Alliance Clothing Factory and for the Kansas Army Ammunition plant in Parsons, Kansas. On November 27, 1954 Janie married Dale W. Minninch in Cherryvale, Kansas where the couple made their home. Virginia worked for 35 years for Electra, Echland, ACC Dana retiring in 1992. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her husband, gardening and needle point. Dale preceded her in death on April 30, 2005. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale, Kansas and a member of the Ataloah Circle at the First Baptist Church. Virginia was a life member of the VFW ladies auxiliary. Survivors include one son Gary and wife Sandra Minnich of Cherryvale, Kansas; one grandson Jeremy LaForest, and wife Amanda of Wichita, Kansas; one great grandson Landon LaForest; one sister Alvena Reicherts of Longdale, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
