Janice M. Shields, age 74, of Cherryvale, Kansas died Thursday, November 26, 2009 at the St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 30, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the AWOL and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Janice was born March 9, 1935 in Cherryvale, Kansas to John W. and Mabel A. Gravel Long. She grew up in Cherryvale, Kansas and graduated from the Cherryvale High School. On November 29, 1952 Janice married Charles Shields in Madison County, Arkansas. Charles preceded her in death. Janice worked as a cook at the Cherryvale High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale, Kansas and was past member of the old time fiddlers and pickers association. Survivors include her mother Mabel Long of Cherryvale, Kansas; four sons William Shields of Altamont, Kansas; Charles Shields of Cherryvale, Kansas, Larry Shields of Cherryvale, Kansas and James Shields of Cherryvale, Kansas; two sisters Linda Bolejack of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Alice Long of Cherryvale, Kansas; 14 Grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
