James H. Hare, formally of Independence, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27th, 2023 in Joplin, Missouri. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 1st, 2023, at 11:00am at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. The family will be greeting friends and family at visitation, held before the service from 9:30-10:45am at Potts Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Woodland Shores Property Owners Association (WSPOA) and or the Wabaunsee Pines Golf Course. These can be left with the funeral home.
James Henry Hare was born on November 13th, 1944 in Cherryvale, Kansas. He was the son of Raymond and Anna (Merritt) Hare. He graduated from Elk City High School in 1962. James joined the Army National Guards in 1961-1963. On November 28th, 1964 he married the love of his life, Christine Main at the Grace Methodist Church. They made their home in Independence. James worked for Williams Natural Gas for 20 years, retiring in 2000. He also baled hay for over 10 years. James enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing and especially liked fishing and hunting with his grandsons. Jim and Chris moved to Afton, Oklahoma in September 2022.
Those preceding him in death were his brother Kenzel Hare; sisters: Helen McFatridge, Janice Hare and Betty Cook; brothers-in-law: Stub Wilson and Gene Cook; sister-in-law Charolette Scott.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Chris of the home, children: Cindy (Jim) Hafenstine, Alma, KS. and Randy (Dana Tribelhorn) Hare, Afton, OK.; grandchildren: Glenn (Sarah Jane) Hafenstine, Grain Valley, MO., Cathy (Christopher) Hafenstine Smart, Alma, KS., Timothy Hare, Independence, KS. and Ryan (Kylie) Hare, Afton, OK.; siblings: Judy Wilson, Independence, KS., Florence (Melvin) McLaughlin, Wellsville, KS., Sharon (Sonny) Lewis, McKinney, TX.; sisters-in-law Carolyn Hare, Elk City, KS.; brother-in-law: Bob McFatridge, Robinson, TX.; other in-laws: Denzel Main, Carolyn Main, Pam and Larry McHugh; many nieces and nephews and three great-grandchildren: Sophie, Jack and Emma Smart.
