James Martin Tremain, age 82 of Havana, Kansas died at his home May 19, 2013 at 3:30 a.m. Mr. Tremain was born February 11, 1931 to Keith Martin and Myrtle Bertha Hoffine Tremain in Holly, Colorado. They later moved to Rago, Kansas before settling in Havana, Kansas in 1936. James went to school in Havana and graduated in 1949. He attended Midwest Business College in Pueblo, Colorado, where he studied telegraphy. He worked for Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad Company in Denver, Colorado. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years he was Teleman First Class. He received many decorations and medals including one for Korean Service, National Defense, China Service, United Nations and Good conduct. James married Mary Ann Thomas on May 19, 1956 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They moved to Denver where he returned to work at Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad Company. They moved back to Havana in 1958 and James starting farming. He graduated from Coffeyville Community Junior College. He was elected to the Caney Community ASC Committee where he served from 1978 to 1983. Mr. Tremain was the 1996 winner of the Goodyear Award sponsored by Ashcraft Tire Company at Independence and he was a veteran of Montgomery County Agricultural Sector. James is survived by his wife Mary Ann of the home after 57 years of marriage to the day four sons, Kenneth Martin Tremain of Havana, Kansas, Michael Lynn Tremain and wife Karen of Havana, Kansas, David Alan Tremain and wife Angela of Hays, Kansas, and Gregory James Tremain and wife Kim of Taft, California 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Leroy Tremain of Nashville, Tennessee and Don Tremain of Manhattan, Kansas and one sister Ramona Townsed of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Celebration of Life Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May, 22, 2013 at the Havana Cemetery with the Evangelist David Bycroft officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel of Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Tyro Christian Church or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas.
