James Dave Smith,63. Of Coffeyville died Sunday at the Freeman Health Systems Hospital in Joplin Missouri . Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held at 100 p. m. Thursday June 14, 2012 at the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas with the Reverend Dick Drumeller of the Crystalbrook Church in Independence Officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel Independence. In Lieu of flowers the family has suggested Memorials be set up for Kori Bigge Fund or the Kade Meyer Fund and contributions may be left with Potts Chapel. Dave was born April 9, 1949 in Cherryvale, Kansas the son of James R. and Vera Anderson Smith. Dave grew up in Cherryvale and graduated from the Cherryvale School System. He later attended college and received a Bachelors Degree. Dave was united in marriage to Karla A Whitson and the couple made their home in Cherryvale. Karla preceded Dave in death. He later married Kandace Whitson and she also preceded him in death. Dave worked for the Funk Manufacturing Company in the Data Processing Administration. He was a member of the Parsons Elks Club 527 in Parson, Kansas. Survivors includes three sons Seth Smith Independence., Chad Smith Coffeyville, Ks., Jason Smith of California, step son Mike Sherwood of Independence ,Ks., one step daughter Brandy Rieske of Oregon, one brother John Smith of Cherryvale, Ks., four sisters Raylelynn Moran of Cherryvale, Ks., Linda Henson of Cherryvale, Cindy Perze of Augusta, Ks.,Debbie Hagan of Wichita, Ks., and 15 grandchildren.
