James Clay Price age 62, of Independence, Kansas passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Pastor Phil Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Church of the Brethren or AWOL and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. James Clay Price was born January 25, 1948 in Independence, Kansas to Joe W. and Winnie Mae Mansfield Price. He grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from the Independence High School in 1966. On May 13, 1968 Clay entered the United States Army and served during Vietnam until his honorable discharge on May 25, 1973. Clay married Gloria Jean Wiley in Independence, Kansas where they made their home. Clay worked for Benson Oil Company, Starcraft Boats and for 32 years with Heartland Cement in Independence, Kansas. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Church of the Brethren and the Cement Plant Union. He owned and operated Shamrock Painting and Dry Wall and loved to fish, swim and play with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Gloria of the home his mother Winnie Mae Price of Independence, Kansas Son Barry and wife Angi Price and Granddaughter Kaity Price of Independence, Kansas Son Sammy Price of Independence, Kansas daughter Amber and husband Travis Gregory and grandchildren Tia and Tucker Gregory of Independence, Kansas daughter Angie and husband Chuck Carr and grandchildren Lexi, Graci, and Sophi Carr of Independence, Kansas sister Ardene and husband John Thompson of Coffeyville, Kansas sister Kim Price of Independence, Kansas sister Denise and husband Dan Lickteig of Olathe, Kansas Pam Danials of Elk City, Kansas 6 nephews and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Joe W. Price and one son Dustin Joe Price.
